Hit or Miss

We have written many things so far this year. Some have been ok others not so much. Out of the big papers we have written so far the one I think was the worst was the research essay. I didn't enjoy writing it and at the end it didn't sound good to me. But on the other hand the best big paper I wrote so far was the Personal response. I like what I did with that piece of writing.
We have written many blogs this year and I would definitely say some are better than others. To me it really depends on the topic and how I write it. It also depends on how i'm feeling when I write these blogs. For some they are a tad bit upbeat, but for others they are more or less boring. Overall my gritting has been pretty decent.

Anticipating our next book

The first statement I chose was, "Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature". Personally I find that this is true. Everyone has told a lie or has in some way been violent. It is just how we as humans act. If people many people do these things already then yes, everyone is capable of terrible things.
The second statement I chose was, "If you are in a position of power, you are happy". For me this I find this not true. Just because you have power dose not mean you are happy. As Uncle Ben from Spider Man once said, "with great power, comes great responsibility". This power can be a great burden which could cause a lot of stress. And even if the person with power is cruel then they have to live in fear of an uprising or something going wrong and losing everything. People in power can live happily, but power does not guarantee happiness.

New York Times Post

I was reading through a few of the prompts when one really caught my eye. It said "How productive and organized are you?" Now when I read this I at first laughed, because I'm doing this with only a few hours till they're due. Thats the moment I realized what prompt I was going to do. Then I sat down to begin typing, but then I got preoccupied with other things. Now Its an hour after I decided on my prompt and I'm just starting.
So if you couldn't tell I am not very productive. I am a great procrastinator and 9/10 times can find something better to do than homework. If i was productive and organized this would have been done over the weekend and most likely would have been a completely different topic, but thats not how I am. Instead I am writing this Monday night with more math homework left to do.

Reading

While we have been reading Purple Hibiscus my main strategy has been to make sure that I understand whats happening. This can become a little time consuming, but since we are annotating anyway it doesn't take any longer. For me this has been making sure that I know what they are saying and what is going on to make them feel this way. Also too understand where they are at and who they are with that makes them act this certain way. It has really helped me throughout the book and I recommend it.
For me the most challenging part is the annotations. Trying to find they key parts that will be important for later and right down things that will help at a later date. Reading this book has defiantly improved my ability to have good annotations. Another challenge is the big words and long sentences that sometimes are in a different language. I am really enjoying reading Purple Hibiscus so far despite the challenges of reading it.

News

In the article, al Abadi the prime minister of Iraq says that his country will defeat the Islamic State in a few weeks. He says that they will still be active in other parts of the middle east, but they will not be in Iraq anymore. They say they are doing this with the help from the American army that has been there fighting. Because of this they have been resulting to airstrikes more often which is causing the deaths of many innocents in the area. Investigations have been opened up from this.
The prime minister also brought up Obama and how he didn't want to get involved in the fighting but was forced into it. This led to the travel ban being brought up and how the U.S. who seems determined to stop ISIS, but won't be able to if they put bans on there allies. Trump did revise the travel ban leaving out Iraq this time so that they could work together on defeating ISIS. I think that maybe they could push ISIS out of Iraq for now, but not for good. Not until people unite and bring down the terrorist group for good.

Learning

Throughout this year I have learned much about myself. In English we have talked about many different skills that are important. Some examples are writing, reading, poetry, and being productive. For me reading has probably been my strongest area of this. With all the books that we read and the in class reading we do most mornings, I feel like I am a stronger reader.
I also feel like I am a stronger writer. With the three papers we have written this year, and the countless blogs, like this one, I feel that I can write better now. The only part I don't feel better about is the grammar. Lastly Poetry is a big thing we just learned. It is a good thing to know about and can be enjoyable to read.

Cookies

Trevor:  What if all currency was replaced with cookies. More valuable cookies have more value and worth while cheap cookies are low forms of cash. Freshness and condition of the cookies also plays a role in the value (fresh, condition=value)

If all the currency in the world became cookies a lot of people would be broke. A lot of people like cookies so if they wanted one they would just eat one. Basically they are eating money. Now if they were already supper rich I guess it would be easy to eat a few cookies if you wanted. Personally I would not have to much money because I like cookies.
Cookies are not to hard to make so would it become illegal to make them. Like, if I went and made a few cookies would I be arrested for counterfeiting. Or would it be legal so everyone could have lots of money. Lastly what type of cookie are we talking about. Is there multiple types for doffrent things or is it only one cookie allowed.

Free Post Prompt

Sydney: Create your own character. Describe him/her in detail. What's his/her name? Age? What is his/her story?

Jamaall Black
Born in France on 12/29/1996
20 years old
His mom is from France and his dad is from Jamaica
He lived the first 7 years of his life in Paris, France until he moved to Kingston, Jamaica. He lived in Jamaica until he was 13, when he decided to move back to his mom in France, to follow his passion of football. When he was 15 he joined the youth academy of the biggest team in France, PSG. People began seeing the potential in him, but he never played a game for the main team. When he was 17 he left to go play in Wolfsburg, Germany for the team VfL Wolfsburg. Playing there for two years he helped them reach 3rd, in the first year, and 2nd, in the second year, in the league. As a Rising star he moved to England to play for Arsenal, where he still plays today.

Song

"Umbrella" by Rihanna ft. Jay Z uses many poetic techniques including repetition, alliteration, and symbolism. Repetition can be seen multiple times in the song. One example is, "Under my umbrella (Ella ella, eh eh eh)/ Under my umbrella (Ella ella, eh eh eh)".  Also an example of alliteration can be seen in the lyric "good girl gone bad".
The entire umbrella in the song is symbolic in a few ways. First off it is a shield to the bad things in life, which is represented as the rain. Also It can be shown as how she will protect the other person. Overall this song uses many poetic techniques and has a deeper meaning.

Story

They knew that this was the only way to succeed on their crusade for freedom. They began to plan their plan to take back the city that they had all loved so much. They had tried to avoid using force, but it was deemed the only way possible. The plan was put into action and a small militant force began causing havoc in the city as a distraction. The subsidized army of the state went to quash the small rebellion, when they were ambushed by the rest of the rebels.
The strife lasted for three days. It was on the third night when the government sanctioned the bombing of the city. They thought this would be the demise of the rebellion, but they had no clue. This sparked a nation wide uprising, that would eventually would leave the country like it is today. The small dream of a few hundred, who had just wanted their city back had led to the country's falling. Now these events are censured by the strict government that somehow survived. Survived is the word they use to describe what they did, but everyone knows they died the second they killed the hundreds of thousands of people in that city. The government did not survive, but instead it was reborn as the monster it is today.

Poem

The dark skies that rule the night,
with clouds like giants floating above,
thunder booming with each step they take.
There grins flashing like lightning,
as they look down and laugh at the pain that is bellow.
Seeing the rain they walk on beat down on the cold world.

The small people below hide under anything they can,
hoping the giants above will pass quickly.
Hoping that the sun will rise and everything will be ok,
but many know differently.
They know that the sun will not rise.
They know the giants have won,
and everything has changed.

Research

Most of our research is done for our paper, and I got two main things from the process. The first was that you need to mark down your sources. I would go to a source to find a little additional info on a certain topic. I would put down the in-text citation, but forget to put the actual source in Noodle-tools. This would be quicker for the moment, but in the long run it is not good. I sorted out this problem and my research finding improved.
The second thing I found was that it's good to have reliable sources. If you have info on your source, then you can let your audience know why they should trust you. Also you can take up more room with talking a little bit about your source. The only thing I was really worried about was citing the sources. I've had some trouble with it, especially the in-text citations, sometimes. I think I'm learning how to do it more though.

ATDPTI

The characters in ATDPTI are very unique. With characters like Rowdy, Junior, and many others, the story becomes very interesting. The characters in a story are one of the main things that drive the plot and keep you interested. If a story doesn't have memorable characters then the story won't be as good. Thats why all great stories have characters that make you feel emotions and keep things interesting.
For me Rowdy was the most memorable character so far in the book. He gets in fights all the time and is the strongest kid on the reservation. He protected Junior all his life and would fight anyone as revenge or protection for him. There is another part of Rowdy that can be seen in the story too. It is the part of him that is beaten by his dad. Rowdy is beaten by his father, but Rowdy beats up anyone else. Rowdy's inner fight in him is so strong because of his dad, and he wouldn't be the same character if things were different.

Free Post

This weekend I was pretty busy. On Saturday I woke up early and went to an ice skating rink to watch my sisters hockey game and it was pretty exciting to watch them play. After her game was over we left for Lake Charles to go to my sisters gymnastic meet. At the end she won three medals. We headed back to our house to get some sleep.
The next day I woke up early again to go to another hockey game. This time I had to work the scoreboard though. It wasn't that hard to do, but you did get yelled at a lot by the coaches and the players. The best thing to do is yell back at them. At the older kids game a fight broke out, but it was kind of hard to see it from where I was. Later that day I had a soccer game, which we tied. Overall I had a good weekend

ATDPTI

So far this book has been a really good read. It is easy to read and has a lot happening which keeps you interested. There are also pictures in it which spaces all the words out and makes it easier to read. I like how it is written in first person and how it flows. It is written like someone is talking or writing to themselves in a diary.
This book has many examples of issues like bullying and poverty, but it handles them by not making the reader focus on them as much. Instead it makes funny comments about them. It does a good job at keeping me interested.  I'm really enjoying the book so far. I think it's going to be one of the best books we will read this year.

Last Semester

Last semester I learned that the amount of effort needed is very different. Compared to middle school you have to work a lot harder to get good grades. Now you actually need to pay close attention in class and take notes. Also you can't procrastinate as much, or you'll be very behind. Lastly you have to do the homework right to understand the material
Test are a lot harder this year compared to last year. There is much more preparation needed for them. Instead of only studying the night before, you have to study a few nights before at the least. Something I need to work on for this semester is my study habits. I need to study for more time and in better ways.

Topic

My topic is Francisco Pizarro. He was a Spanish conquistador who conquered the Incas. He was born in Spain and lived with his mom's family, who were farmers. His dad was a low medium ranking noble in Trujilo. Pizarro was one of the many illegitimate sons of his dad. Pizarro was uneducated and could not read. Hearing of the fortunes in the newly discovered Americas, he decided to sail there in 1502.
While he was in the Americas he accomplished many things. He was on the first exploration that discovered the Pacific ocean. For this and other things he was put on the town council in Panama. After years in the Americas, Pizarro wanted to see if there was a wealthy empire in south America that he heard about. A few years of exploring South America he gathered an army and conquered the Incas

Free Post

Breakfast, supposed to be the most important meal of the day. It's the one they say fills you up till the next time you eat. There are many different food items that we think of when someone says breakfast. We think of waffles, pancakes, cereal, french toast, eggs, toast, and so much more. It all sounds pretty good, and is enjoyed by many people.
Most people like breakfast foods, but just don't have time. People have places to go so we fix a cup of coffee and grab something quick and go on there way. Some people don't even eat breakfast. They just wait till later in the day when they have more time. I'll do this sometimes and I know many others do too. This is why people eat breakfast foods at any time in the day. Breakfast foods are just so good and people like to eat them even if it isn't in the morning.

Research Update

My research project has been going ok so far. Im doing my project on Francisco Pizarro. I have just finished my six annotations and have started working on my notecards. I need 35 notecards tomorrow and I have only done six of them. I would be working on them now, but Noodletools decided to be a flop and isn't working. I'll have them finished tonight most likely if Noodletools decides to start working.
I think I have a good idea of what I will do with this Paper. My sources are pretty good and will help me, which is what I need. Once I'm done with the Notecards I'll start on my outline and it should be smooth sailing from there. Now I just need noodle tools to work.
